In this book Ron is first exposed to a serial killer while interviewing him. It explains how Ron chose his name and where he began planning his future murders. It is after he has written his first book that failed due to his lack of understanding of how murders were committed. This book was just okay for me. It tells the stories of Lesters criminal activity but not with enough variation that the situational felt new. Nothing about Lester's victims made you empathize with them, not because they are hooker but more because you know nothing about their personalities or lives. You learn how Lester has shaped himself into a serial killer and that he would have never quit because it is what makes him feel good. What I still wonder is Ron's story. I can't imagine that after interviewing Lester he just decided to start killing women without a sliver of empathy. He was also very secretive about his life and made lied about his life while with Nicole in the previous books. So what really made him a murderer? Was he displaying sign as a child? Were the tendencies just lying in wait for a catalyst the whole time? Still so many question ...but it was still a good book to spend the evening reading.

22918 Held Book 3 edition by Kimberly A Bettes Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
I'm a huge fan of Kimberly A. Bettes but this book, though I read the whole thing, was not one of my favorites. Ms. Bettes can really get into the mind of a sadistic killer but I found the ending somewhat unsettling. I am a bit ambivalent about recommending this book though anyone who is a fan like I am will not be able to resist reading it. So you may as well just do it and get it over with! Please, Ms. Bettes, keep writing.
I could not put this down! Read it in two sittings. It was just what I wanted...straight up serial killer from their perspective only. No other characters, no confusing time changes, perfectly told from the killer himself. FANTASTIC read!! I don't give stars easily, can count on one hand the 5s I've given, and read a book a week. Thank you to the author!
Loved the chances the author takes in this book! I have always wanted to interview a serial killer and this definitely lived up to my expectations of what the killer would confess. The sex mixed with death was erotic and extremely enticing. Throughout I couldn't put it down and I even hoped he wouldn't get caught in the end even though I knew. Great read!!!!!
First book I've read by this author. Interested me enough to want to read the rest of this series. Editing could be a bit tighter (repetitive phrases and scenes). I was not surprised by the ending. The scene at end with the mother made it better than most in this genre. Give it a try!
Could not put this book down! Was so disappointed when it was over (because I didn't want it to be) that I had to immediately get another one of her books. It was such an interesting perspective and of course an easy read and I could picture the scenes and feeling of every character. My favorite book is still Rage, but this one and The Day Bob Greenly Died easily come in second. Its weird how she made me feel a bit sympathetic for him because of his childhood and relationship with his mom, even though he is a complete psychopath. And I even felt sad when he was finally arrested. That is definitely a sign of a good writer. I read so much that it seems to be hard to find a really good book anymore, but this book was awesome and I'm so glad I purchased it and found her. If you are looking for page turner that you can't put down, I would highly recommend this book.
I read this book in one sitting, it was so good. It's Lester's story of his childhood and the murderer he grows to be. He's telling the story to a reporter and he's very detailed. He leaves nothing out. He reminded me very much of the Green River Killer (Gary Ridgeway). Who knows, the Green River Killer may have inspired the author. Either way, it was an excellent read. Never once did I feel the story was slow. You do feel for Lester when the little sister gets all the attention and then when his mother is so cold towards him. Regardless of what he became, he was a normal child originally. The final scene at the end between himself and his mother brought tears to my eyes. I felt for him and I felt for her. After all she is the mother of a serial killer.
I think this book was great and I look forward to more from this author.
I really wanted to like this book. This author gets great reviews and I actually like the writing style. Usually that's the sticking point for me. I don't care for the writing style and the story moves too slowly. But that wasn't the case here. I really liked the author's style and the story moved along quickly with some interesting little nuggets. I think the problem was with the Psychology. At times, it was off. Or too simplistic, predictable. At any rate, give all the strengths, I will definitely read another of her books.
